Twentieth Day of School

In Writing today, we attempted our first drafting activity which was to draft the setting (page 1) of our narrative. The 1st page includes the information answering when, who, and where. For example: Last week, my dad and I went for a walk in the park.

Also for the first time today, we had our first written response to text activity.

Fifteenth Day of School

In Writing today, we began the writing process by brainstorming. Our first brainstorming activity was to list settings (places) where we may have experienced one or more memorable events/moments. At home, continue to have your child tell stories orally from their memorable moments list. Today, parents can also brainstorm their own list of memorable morment settings.

In Language Arts, we discussed the difference between a phrase (2 or more words together forming an idea or concept but not a sentence) and a sentence. We practiced turning phrases into sentences, for example, the big blue bike.

For discussion:

  • When and where do we use capital letters?
In Math, we solved the following workshop problem:

Kira was making a bracelet with 10 beads. She put 3 beads on her string. How many more beads did she need to string in order to make 10?

For discussion:
  • What is the difference between a math expression and a math sentence (equation)?
Parents and their children did an excellent job of the memorable moments assignment. Thank you to those who have completed this task.
